There remains many areas of public and political life from which Travellers are excluded.  This exclusion begins with a lack of acknowledgement for the very existence of a Traveller culture, the lack of access by Traveller children and young people to educational and job opportunities, and the acceptance of anti-Traveller rhetoric as ‘free speech’ in public discourse.  The narrative must change if there is to be any hope of gaining equality of opportunity for Travellers to have meaningful participation.
